SPIRITUAL GIFTS
Ever since I was a child, I could sense what people were really like. I couldn’t put it into words (and still can’t), but it was obvious to me who was genuine, who was lying, who was loving, who was manipulative, etc. I was so perplexed when others admired people who were fakers or evil. Couldn’t anyone see what they were really like? I eventually discovered I had the spiritual gift of discernment. And others truly could not sense what I could.
I still have discernment about people’s true character as well as other spiritual gifts. I’ve had prophetic dreams that came true. I’ve had visions or knowledge about people that only God would know, and those involved verified it was true. I also sense demonic spirits in people and places. Instead of being scared, I learned how to use spiritual power to not allow anyone or anything to threaten or harm me. How?
Jesus Christ has all power and authority (Matthew 28:18). He’s given those who serve Him power over all evil. We may think we are fighting against people, but we are not. “Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” (Ephesians 6:12 NIV). Jesus said to believers, “I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you” (Luke 10:19 NIV).
How do we get such power? First we surrender our entire lives to Jesus Christ. Then we are under His protection and can use the authority He gave us. We daily read and obey His Word, the Bible. We listen to His voice and follow His direction. Then whenever we resist the devil and demonic forces using the authority of Jesus, evil must leave us. (James 4:7). I do this in situations where evil or the threat of evil is present. Jesus’s name and authority are extremely powerful.

There is another side to spiritual gifts. Some people reject Jesus Christ yet seem to have supernatural gifts as well. They do. But the source is Satan and his demons. These supernatural abilities may seem “good,” but a person who uses an ungodly source of spiritualism (witchcraft, sorcery, the occult, psychics, horoscopes, tarot cards, séances, etc.) opens the door to evil spirits. See details HERE. The spirit realm is real and active. Either we are influenced by God’s Spirit or demonic spirits.
I choose Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit whose incredible gifts fill me with healing, power, freedom, and joy!
